CPL/Opus

New from Centipede Productions — The CPL/Opus RIP

The CPL/Opus RIP is a standalone software product designed for easy OEM integration; both source code and library versions are available. The RIP converts PostScript and PDF artwork into output-ready artwork in TIFF or dual resolution Scitex Brisque format. A range of viewers and output conversion options is also available.

RIP Features

Dual Resolution (linework and contone) output — artwork is created in two separate formats: a low resolution contone background (typically 300-600 dpi, 12-24 dpmm), and a high resolution linework overlay (typically 3000 dpi, 120 dpmm). High Resolution Edge (HRE) processing is used to remove 'jaggies' where contone images meet. Note that the linework resolution need not be a multiple of the contone resolution.

Large format output — the CPL/Opus RIP can generate multi-metre wide output at high resolution. For instance at 120 lines/mm the limit is almost eighteen metres.

DeviceN Colour space and Spot Colour processing — in addition to the four (CMYK) process colours, the RIP can handle up to ten user-specified spot colours. In-RIP separation technology is used to produce a separate output plate for each spot or process colour. The RIP can also infer plate colours directly from the incoming job if necessary.

Level Three Compatibility — the RIP is Adobe Level Three Postscript compatible, providing full support for new technologies such as blends (including blended spot colours), CIE colour, idiom recognition, CID fonts, etc.

Integrated vector trapping — an integrated vector trapping engine automatically spreads and chokes process and spot colours to reduce the visual effect of press misregistration.

Quark 'settrap' support — the CPL/Opus RIP understands the Quark 'settrap' convention, allowing user-specified raster-based spread and choke of individual graphical objects.

PDF Compatibility — the RIP can process PDF jobs as easily as PostScript ones. A preprocessor is used to flatten transparency. Native PDF processing is currently in development.

Integrated DSC Parser — an integrated Document Structuring Convention (DSC) parser extracts process and spot colour, overprint and page information from each job to create a user-editable job sheet. The RIP can use this information to 'glue together' pre-separated files, or separate composite ones.

SVG/PNG output — the CPL/Opus RIP can also generate dual SVG (Scalable Vector Graphics) linework and PNG (Portable Network Graphics) contone output in the RGB colourspace. Modern web browsers such as FireFox can display these formats natively.

Platform independent 'C' code — written in industry standard 'C' code CPL/Opus is compatible with Windows, Mac and Linux systems.

CPL/Opus is an independently developed OEM product. Please contact us at Centipede Productions for pricing information.
